Also known
as "Bus #6," it was originally purchased in 2002 from a church in Ft.
Collins, CO, where it had been in service as a church and private school
bus. Because of electrical problems, they had stopped using it.
The bus
met our requirements for drive train , was old enough
to be very inexpensive, and rough enough for the hazardous assignment we
had for it.
It served a
purpose in ministry such as transportation into Mexico for mission
trips. We needed dependable transportation that was old & ugly
enough that damage didn't matter and so that it wouldn't be stolen south
of the border.
The
electrical problem led to a wiring melt-down inside the walls about an
hour after we bought it. After repairing the Carpenter factory
defect and the damage, we crossed the Rocky Mountains and the bus has been
running ever since.
After 2
years of dependable service, our large mission trips ceased, as the
attendees broke into smaller groups and traveled in smaller vehicles.
With a
dependable old bus too rough and ugly to use for local transportation, the
ideas began. Supplies were located, and God led us to re-create #6
into the Monster Cool Bus. We knew God was in it when he provided
$4,000 worth of wheels and tires for only $400. The rest is history.
The
Monster Cool Bus has carried thousands of adults and young people on
special event rides while introducing them to the Gospel message at the
same time. People love to ride on a bus that thinks it's an
overgrown Hummer! Think about it -- going mudding with 40 friends,
all at the same time and in the same vehicle. It recently broke tires loose (burned-off) on dry pavement with cheering witnesses during a town festival.
The
Monster Cool Bus is a big hit at parades, useful for disaster relief deployments, domestic violence rescues, special events for young people
and a spiritual tool when used as a mobile chapel.
The monster bus is now serving as a Nascar Bus with a new owner.
